Thousand Oaks MTC: The Math Teachers’ Circle of Thousand Oaks is an informal monthly program that aims to engage teachers and mathematicians in working together on intriguing and stimulating problems. Through this collaborative process, we seek to provide teachers with an opportunity to enrich their knowledge and appreciation of mathematics. We feel that problem-solving abilities and critical thinking engender success in many fields, and that promoting these abilities in teachers will, in turn, foster them in their students. New Haven County MTC: The New Haven County Math Teachers’ Circle (NHCMTC) is a professional development community of mathematics teachers and mathematicians who meet regularly to work on rich mathematics problems. The NHCMTC seeks to provide opportunities for local middle school teachers to engage in rich problem-solving activities that rekindle their joy of mathematics. These opportunities are also designed to provide a local network of like-minded individuals and the chance to develop new working relationships. Finally, a library of resources for teachers that support problem-solving in their classroom will be created and sustained based on the teachers’ needs and the NHCMTC’s mission. The NHCMTC is a Member Circle of the Math Teachers’ Circle Network. Casco Bay MTC Goals: 1. To engage middle school math teachers in mathematical problem solving and involve them in an ongoing dialogue about math with students, colleagues, and professional mathematicians. 2. To provide guidance and materials to middle school math teachers that will enable them to promote open-ended problem solving as a way of learning, thinking about, and practicing math in their classrooms. 3. To provide a forum to empower middle school math teachers to implement the mathematical practices in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Greater Nebraska Math Teachers' Circle Math Teachers Circles bring together active mathematicians, teachers and others invested in mathematics education. The goal is to discover and pass along to students the excitement and richness of problem solving in deep yet accessible mathematical topics. SEOMTC The South East Ohio Math Teacher's Circle (SEOMTC) serves the Athens and surrounding regions. Teachers from area elementary and middle schools are collaborating with university faculty to create a group that meets regularly to engage in FUN, ENGAGING, and MEANINGFUL mathematics problem solving. This is NOT professional development! This is "doing math" that is fun and doing it together with other teachers and those with a love of puzzles, problem solving, and play. BUT we think that having fun exploring new math gets educators (like us) excited about doing new and fun mathy things in the classroom. So even though this isn't meant to be your "typical" professional development, we can't help but develop as we engage in the math. As such, we're going to be printing participation certificates for every meeting to support educators who want evidence of their commitment to ongoing learning. Moreover, it will serve as a great reminder of the kind of work that research has shown keeps our minds (and hearts!) young. MTCA The Math Teachers' Circle of Austin is a professional learning community that brings together middle school math teachers and professional mathematicians so that they may work together and learn from each other. Our goal is to help middle school mathematics teachers confidently incorporate open-ended, authentic mathematical problem solving in their teaching. We hold monthly problem solving session during the school year and summer workshops. MTC Austin sessions are free to all math teachers in the Austin area. To get involved by becoming a participant or sponsor, contact one of our founding members or email us at mathteacherscircleaustin@gmail.com. East TX MTC The East Texas Math Teachers' Circle (ETMTC) is an opportunity for middle and high school mathematics teachers to rediscover their love for mathematics by exploring problem solving with SFA mathematics faculty. Emphasis is placed on the development of problem solving strategies that can then be taken back to the middle and high school mathematics classroom. The ETMTC is open to all middle and high school mathematics teachers, so come join in and don't miss the fun!
